Abstract

This paper is part of research on the Works of Sandor Ferenczi and Wilfred Bion, and their relationship regarding
innovations they introduced in the concept of mental functioning, and application of these concepts in clinical
practice. In this essay, the author makes a critical reading, using the category of “The Negative” in psychoanalysis. This Haegelian
category was introduced by the French psychoanalyst J. Lacan in his critical reading of Freud, and has continued from 1975
until the present. The author uses this category to help him illuminate some obscure points on the changes in direction of
both Ferenczi and Bion’s reasoning.
