Abstract

Throughout Alejandra Pizarnik’s poetic work the presence of the ego transformed into poetic matter can be noticed. The ego is at the same time subject of the enunciation, subject matter of enunciation and addressee of it. Pizarnik’s poetry is not a monologue, it is a dialogue. Dialogue with oneself, but the ego is not a different one, it goes on being ego even outside of the own ego.
In the author the poem is a permanent “display” of the ego in a state of being engrossed. Her poetry constructs the ego in an infinite play of the ego projecting itself towards the infinity of the ego. It is a multiple voice singing to itself. But it is
also silence that speaks, that “shows” but does not “demonstrate” because it is not its aim. Alejandra Pizarnik’s whole poetry is question: what/who am I? But the answer does not direct towards the where do I come from or where am I going to, but it installs itself in the present: The poem seems to be the answer.
