Este artículo va a tratar de aplicar algo de nuestro conocimiento y teoría sobre el dormir y el sueño a la comprensión de la situación analítica que se define empíricamente como la hora analítica común, o vagamente “como lo que pasa en el
diván” y a veces la palabra diván será metafóricamente usada como sinónimo de situación analítica. Incluidos en la idea de situación analítica están los fenómenos de asociación libre, resistencia, y otros conceptos bien conocidos y generalmente aceptados como conceptos operativos.
