This paper proposes a review of the ways in which psychoanalysis approaches certain contemporary forms of presentation, taking as its axis the notions of nomination, demand, and the conditions of inscription of the body. It argues that the terms in which distress is formulated are not independent of the coordinates of the field of the Other, which calls for an examination of both the conditions of its production and the responses that become available. Within this framework, trans-related consultations make it possible to clearly situate the tension between the solutions offered by prevailing discourses and those aspects of the problem that cannot be reduced to the terms in which it is formulated. Analytic work is thus not oriented toward responding within those same terms, but toward sustaining a space in which something of the subject may come into being. Finally, it is proposed that analytic practice entails a position that does not anticipate the status of what is brought to consultation, keeping open the question of the conditions of inscription and the singularity of each trajectory.
