Abstract

This paper points out the existence oftwo short tales of Horacio Quiroga, which seem to anticipate tragical events in author’s family: his wife’s death and bis son’s suicide. The repetitive presence of death in author’s background is standed out. This artistical and
biographical facts are linked with the dead instinct notion. The role of dead instinct in productive aspects of Quiroga’s life is emphasized.
