Erico Verissimo: «here and there the unconscious betrays me »
Keywords:
biography, literature, unconscious, Verissimo, EricoAbstract
This essay proposes a reflection on the role of the unconscious in erico verissimo´s modus operandi. The writer is settled in the top of the pantheon, concerning Rio grande do sul literature, and is among one of the Brazilian authors most identified with the sensibility of River Plate. Emphasis here is given to excerpts from verissimo´s novels where unconscious works in a way that goes far beyond what the author supposes, texts in which -always according to the novelist´s words- unconscious took the leading paper when it came to constructing scenes, characters and even stories themselves. This reflection is an «excuse» to go over some of the life
and work key facts of the author who materialized and immortalized the gaúcho collective unconscious through «time and the Wind» epic trilogy, which turned out to be a classic of Brazil literature.
