The paper discusses the connection between the Oedipus, the social bond, and the effects of the state terror over human sexuality through film examples, with a special focus on Pasolini’s Oedipus Rex and Sergio Blanco’s theatre play Ostia, which serves Blanco as a bridge between the assassination of Pasolini in Ostia and the disappearance of detainees during the dictatorships in the Río de la Plata.
Pasolini’s Oedipus Rex allows the director to articulate Freud’s ideas in Totem and taboo and an Oedipus experienced with a violent, fascist father; an experience later sublimated in his work. The impact of culture on sexuality and the impact of both on the construction of the social bond are highlighted.
