Abstract

This paper is a reflection concerning some links between symbolisation and the transformation process described by Bion.
A brief review of the development of the concept of symbolization in kleinian theory is outlined, specially related to some failures of
symbolization in narcissistic object relations. Starting from the idea of transformation in hallucinosis, some possible extensions
are explored as well as the factors which facilitate or hamper transformation. Finally, through some clinical vignettes, the author
tries to illustrate different clinical situations which show the difference between expectative of preconception looking for new
meaning and predetermination which claims for reassure.
