Tenemos objetivos a corto y a largo plazo en psicoanálisis. El objetivo a corto plazo es aliviar las angustias y conflictos que elmpaciente nos muestra en primer plano del análisis. El objetivo a largo plazo es fomentar su desarrollo por medio de un proceso
que comienza en el consultorio y que lo ayudará en el período mucho más largo de su vida, después que ha dejado por última vez el consultorio. Las interpretaciones que dirigimos para la resolución de las angustias inmediatas deben ser consistentes con el logro de los objetivos de desarrollo a largo plazo. En éstos, el tipo de proceso esclarecedor, que puede convenientemente llamarse cura, constituye una etapa muy deseable aunque no siempre invariable. (...)
