Las ciencias humanas centradas en el estudio del hombre transitaron largo tiempo por el camino señalado por Babel. Sin embargo el hombre no ha cesado de buscar aquella similitud perdida: por un lado en intentos de unir los discursos de las ciencias, intentos que se marcan sobre todo en la ciencia contemporánea por el interés en los estudios interdisciplinarios y en la destrucción de la compartimentación rígida de las ciencias de otra época; por otro lado en empresas mas audaces> ya que corren el riesgo de «disolverlo» según el término utilizado por Lévi-Strauss.
